Neid ist ein Gefühl, das gerne abgewehrt wird: „Nicht, dass ich neidisch wäre – ich gönne es ihr/ihm von Herzen, aber …“ Neid ist vielen Menschen nur selten bewusst – obwohl er sich täglich an vielen Stellen destruktiv äußert. Wenn wir einmal bewusst darauf achten, wie sich Neid anfühlt, können wir Erstaunliches feststellen. Der amerikanische Wissenschaftler Ralph B. Hupka und seine Kollegen aus Polen, Deutschland, Mexiko und Russland, haben 1996 eine Studie veröffentlicht, in der sie beschreiben, wo die Menschen verschiedener Nationen ihre Gefühle wahrnehmen.
Neid beeinflusst den Atem
Die Studienteilnehmer aus allen fünf untersuchten Nationen gaben an, dass Neid etwas mit ihrer Atmung zu tun habe. Sie gaben dem Neid ihren Platz in der Brust und dem Herzen. Deutsche und Polen lokalisierten den Neid nicht in ihren Augen oder im Gesicht, obwohl in vielen Kulturen die Rede vom „Neid in den Augen“ die Rede ist. Auf jeden Fall hat Neid etwas „Zerreißendes“. Bei den polnischen Studienteilnehmern war Neid fast gar nicht im Körper lokalisiert. Wenn sie dem Neid schon ein Platz geben sollten, so würden sie sagen, dass der Neid im Herzen zu fühlen ist.
Der Neid in den Augen
Die amerikanischen Studienteilnehmer sagten, dass sie Neid in den Augen, in den Tränen, im Gesicht, im Kopf und im Magen verspürten, wobei die Augen am stärksten hervorgehoben wurden. Mexikaner hingegen gaben dem Neid ihren Platz im Gesicht und die Deutschen am stärksten im Kopf.

„Reflecting upon envy a bit more later, I believe there is a relationship between creativity and envy. People without a degree of creativity would probably be more envious because they cannot see an alternative path to get the object of their envy.
Those with creativity, if they really want something bad enough, probably can come up with a solution to obtain their goals, assuming we are talking about reasonably aims.
Additionally, creative people tend to be focused more on intrinsic values, and self absorbed in there work or endeavors.
I tend to be in this later category mainly due to the fact that I have Asperger’s Syndrome, a.k.a. High Functioning Autism. Hence, my rather abrupt ways in communicating socially. I tend to say what I think, assuming people will take it at face value, and respond accordingly; which I know is not the way most of the world thinks or reacts.“

„I can honestly say I do not suffer much from this malady. Although, there are other maladies of the soul I have suffered greatly from – these you can plainly see in my dreams. In the past year or so, I have been so engrossed in my work that I cannot imagine wanting to do or be anything or anyone else.
It would be nice to have more money, but I do not envy others of there place in society because then I would have to give up my talents or ‚gifts‘ and I would not want to do this. I feel like I am on the brink of some breakthroughs in the dream field. I plan to continue on in this work until I can no long function in a useful capacity.
I have not yet had time to write up and interpret the dream I had the night after we spoke, but it involved me being a servant of the people in my ex-wife’s circle during her second marriage. Most of them were well off – her 2nd husband was a president at J. P. Morgan Bank in New York. But I got along quite well and I was always invited and accepted at all of their parties.
Because of the children we maintained contact. I have spent many Christmas’s and other holidays with them and I am fond of her husband. He is extremely smart and well educated and I enjoy our conversations. And, he has always been good to my children and myself – very fair.
In the dream, I did not object to being a servant and was concerned about the guest’s thirst at one point. But I have not really analyzed it as I mentioned.
But, in regard to the way I think your question was phrased, I think envy would be felt in the heart.“

Neid ist zu unterscheiden von Mißgunst. Ich kann auf etwas neidisch sein,was der andere hat, es ihm aber trotzdem gönnen – weil ich ihn mag.
